When vacationing on a beach in Florida, Miami Beach is the one that most commonly comes to mind. However, many tourists and locals alike are starting to find enjoyment in vacationing at Vilano Beach, which is just two miles from St. Augustine, which is known as the "Nation's Oldest City". Nestled between the river identified as "Tolomato" and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, Vilano Beach has been described as "St. Augustine's Best Kept Secret". It was nicknamed this due to the fact that it is a relatively quiet beach that most locals visit due to the fact that there are not overcrowding issues due to tourists.
Despite the fact that many locals enjoy visiting this isolated beach, they are very willing to share the "secret" location with guests. In the earliest days of St. Augustine history a man named Henry Flagler attracted many visitors to the city due to the fact that he constructed and opened several luxury hotels in the area. As more and more people began to flock into the area, there were ferries and even horse carriages that would take the visitors to the luxurious shores of Vilano Beach. By the time 1926 rolled around, tourists were highly attracted to the area. This came as a result of the Grand Vilano Casino being constructed near the beach by a man named August Heckscher.
If you are interested in vacationing at Vilano Beach, you will find that it is a great destination for allowing you to personally take part in the Florida experience. Seeing that the beach is only a short distance from the notably historical St. Augustine, Florida, there are many sights and attractions that you may enjoy. The city is known for its fascinating ghost stories. You may take part in both day and night ghost hunts that occur on foot, by trolley, and by water. In addition to this, there are many historical places to visit such as the Castillo de San Marcos, or the "Old Fort" as locals call it, the mansion that houses Ripley's Believe it or Not, as well as the Old Spanish Military Hospital.
If you enjoy fishing, there are many areas apart from Miami - which is a vacation hot spot for fishing - where you may enjoy a little time catching fish. You may fish in both salt water areas as well as fresh water areas. There are a total of nine unique habitats where you may discover many different types of wildlife animals and over one hundred species of birds that you may enjoy seeing while on your Florida vacation. You may also get to observe various types of sea life such as sea turtles, dolphins playing at sea, and even manatees! If you enjoy fishing, observing animals, or simply want to capture the "heart" of the Florida's wildlife, Vilano Beach is the place to be!
There are many different hotels, villas, apartments, condos, and town houses that are available in and around the Vilano Beach area. Many of these accommodations may be included in on a Florida vacation package. If you want to experience the salt, the white sands, and the fun that northeast Florida has to offer, make your reservations for Vilano Beach. It will be a vacation experience like you have never before experienced!
